"y am i not okay" - Luci | Review

In her latest single, “y am i not okay”, Luci explores the emotional anguish that comes from having a broken heart while at the same time seeing that the person that broke your heart has seemingly moved on with living their life without feeling any regret or pain.

In a press release, Luci explains, “Going through a break up is hard..but going through a blind-sided break up is even harder. I was so in love with this girl and one day out of the blue, she told me that she didn’t want to be in a relationship anymore and found someone else. My heart was broken into little pieces and I didn’t understand why I wasn’t ok”. While the lyrics portray the negative emotions that come from heartbreak and loss, the catchy melody and beat make for a great dance song. This song is perfect for a girls’ night out after you’re finally ready to hit the town again after a breakup. Sonically, it reminds me a lot of Fletcher’s music, another LGBTQ singer-songwriter that I love. Overall, I thought that this was a very catchy song that would provide a fun dancing backdrop and help those in similar situations find healing and acceptance.

“y am i not okay” is the final single from Luci’s forthcoming album, which should be released in the next couple of months. Luci is a relatively new music artist, with Luci starting to release music just five years ago. She has roots in dance music, which inform her songwriting and performances. In addition, Luci also hopes to be a positive representative of the queer community and act as an advocate for all women and femme-identifying individuals within the music industry. Luci is on a mission to shaping the world into a better image.
