NextFest LA welcomes Caroline Sky to close out the night

For 13 days in the Month of May 2022, NextFest LA will launch its inaugural year on multiple stages within the LA County Fair experience, which is celebrating its 100-year anniversary. This will be one of the largest indie culture events on the West Coast, if not the nation, with over 200 artists, DJs, boutique parties, and more scheduled to perform.

On May 15 seven specially selected artists will grace the Label Squadz & Unheard Gems stage. Ranging from indie to pop and RnB to alternative grit, these artists are here to do what they do best, perform. The artists performing: Sam Stacy, Cate Tomlinson, Jackii Kennedy, Christina Castle, AprilFoolChild, Stereo Jane, and Caroline Sky.

We got a chance to chat with Caroline Sky, a talent who has graced the American Idol and The Voice. From her luminous voice and the first chords that ring out tunefully from her acoustic guitar, Caroline Sky’s audiences are left with little doubt - they are in the presence of a truly extraordinary singer-songwriter, one who combines top-shelf vocal talents, uncommon songwriting insight, and soulful instrumental delivery. We are looking forward to seeing her close out the show May 15

Unheard Gems: We are so excited to be co-curating a stage at NextFest LA with Label Squadz and are so thrilled to have you be a part of the experience! Are you excited for the festival?

Caroline Sky: I couldn’t be more excited to fly out to LA to play this show! I will have just (hopefully) survived finals season so I’m definitely beyond stoked to have this to look forward to.

Unheard Gems: You’re closing out the day for the Label Squadz x Unheard Gems day! How does it feel to be part of this line up?

Caroline Sky: Super honored to be included in this lineup! One of my favorite things to do is discover talented up and coming artists and join their fan clubs, I think it’s so great to support each other on our musical journeys.

Unheard Gems: When it comes to playing live, do you have a favorite pre or post-show ritual you want to share with us?

Caroline Sky: When I was on American Idol last year I got into the habit of watching Schitt's Creek while getting dressed and doing my pre-show makeup -- it’s such a comfort show to me and helps me feel calm and centered before I play. If I’m wearing heels that day I tend to practice jumping around in them for a few minutes, juuuust in case!

Unheard Gems: We are so excited to hear your set, is there a song you are most excited to perform and why?

Caroline Sky: I’m so excited to play my song Giving Tree! It was just released on all platforms and is one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written. It’s a great one to dance to as well!

Unheard Gems: In terms of instructions for the audience that day, what would be the craziest, most fun, silly, thing you want to see in the crowd?

Caroline Sky: I’ll give total creative freedom to whoever is in the crowd! I love to see people enjoying themselves and connecting with the music in general, so no requests! I’m just looking forward to jamming with everyone and having a great time.

Unheard Gems: What inspired you to start making music? Who were your role models and inspirations?

Caroline Sky: My dad taught me how to play guitar and has been my biggest supporter since day one, so major shoutout to him! I grew up listening to a lot of folk music, so my songwriting is definitely inspired by the narrative storytelling of that genre. My childhood soundtrack included artists like Joni Mitchell, Carole King, and James Taylor who definitely influenced my track as a writer.

Unheard Gems: In true Unheard Gems fashion we have to close by asking who your favorite emerging artist is but let's narrow it down to artist playing NextFest LA (Label Squadz x Unheard Gems Day)

Caroline Sky: I can’t wait to hear from everyone! How could I choose from such an incredible lineup?!
