“Hiding Place” - Maddie Regent |Review

On December 1, 2023, Maddie Regent released the single “Hiding Place” from her recent EP ‘Girl of Your Dreams’.

The pop song starts very upbeat, with some synths and fun percussion. The vocals on the track are dreamy with lyrics like “I’m moving on but we’re moving at the same pace, You cross my mind without even looking both ways”. The track is the epitome of a girlboss anthem that describes moving on from a bad relationship. Regent describes “Hiding Place” as a song that describes a toxic relationship and wanting to go to the places you know that person is hiding. When you’re in a relationship you find out everything about one another, even their safe places and this song is about stopping yourself from trying to find them again. The second verse was personally my favorite part of the track, with the harmonies stacked I was able to feel Regent’s intentions with the lyrics. Most songs about past relationships are slow and more melancholic, but with “Hiding Place” I can feel the power and strength of getting out of a bad relationship. I would recommend this track to listeners who listen to Taylor Swift and Bebe Rexha.

The singer-songwriter originally hails from Toronto, CA but currently resides in New York City, NY. “Hiding Place” was co-written and produced with Cade Hoppe, a frequent co-collaborator with Regent. Maddie has been making music since she was as young as 12, describing it as something that she found a safe space in and helped her get out of her introverted shell. ‘Girl of Your Dreams’ is an 8 track EP that is the 6th musical release to be dropped by Regent this year. With this latest EP closing out 2023, I think it is safe to say 2024 will be no stranger to even more music released by Regent.
