"Weightless” - STVN | Review

“Weightless” by STVN is a lo-fi, pop that sounds like pure joy. I couldn’t stop smiling while listening to it.

STVN shows off his impressive production skills by weaving together synths and piano to create the mellow, starstruck vibe of someone in love. The opening piano melody is extremely catchy and the friendly beat allows STVN’s vocals and message to shine. His lyrics follow the story of a budding romance that makes you feel carefree and weightless. If you thought this song could not get more wholesome and enjoyable, think again. The cartoon cover art of a guy getting swept away by a handful of balloons (à la the Pixar film Up) is adorable and captures the message perfectly.

“This is one of my favorite songs I’ve written,” STVN says. “First, it was a very random spur of the moment write...I had the concept of feeling light in my spirit after spending some quality time with someone I had feelings for...I feel that this song best incorporates the many genres of music that I like to write, pop, lofi, and cinematic orchestral music.” “Weightless” is also the first song he performed at his first show in fall of 2019 while opening for Charlie Burg. Now, it is the third track from his upcoming EP “Sugar High.”

Steven Alexander Chen, aka STVN, is an independent artist, producer and songwriter from Philadelphia. He released his first single "Heartstrings" in 2019 which has since amassed over 200,000 streams across platforms. He performed his most recent single "Somebody" with Aubrey Toone on Good Day PA on ABC27, and is quickly generating a following with a fresh and distinguished sound.
