"Love You Better" - HAUNTER | An Emo Valentine's Day Song for the Romantics

"We’re a bunch of former emo kids, and one metalhead that ditched the loud guitars for big hooks and pop sensibilities. The band has just completed work on a series of songs with Grammy Nominated Rock/Metal Producer Tyler Smyth (I Prevail, Falling In Reverse, Blessthefall) in Los Angeles, California. Citing influences from Chvrches, Ellie Goulding, The Chainsmokers, and Imagine Dragons, we blend our pop foundation with slick electronic elements and soaring, anthemic vocals. Our debut single, “Love You Better” will be released on 02/14/2020. It’s a synth-driven sonic powerhouse that serves as an anti-love song.  The song is a semi-autobiographical cautionary tale based off the experiences of Lucy and Enoma in their respective pursuits of love. It speaks to the often untold damage of hook-up culture through the eyes of hopeless romantics."

Introducing HAUNTER; a new force of in alt-pop born from sleepless nights, a desire for growth and the redemptive power of music.

HAUNTER traces its roots back to late 2016. Enoma Asowata (guitars/synths) had met producer/songwriter Tyler Smyth (I Prevail, Falling In Reverse, Blessthefall) as so many musicians in the pop world of today do - while pursuing DIY projects during the Warped Tour era. The duo clicked musically, and after several months of talks, Enoma sent Tyler some rough demos of songs he had written. The idea behind all this was to do something different, challenging, and brutally honest.

“The idea of being haunted by the state that you were and the state that you are in fascinated me. The name HAUNTER fits us perfectly..because sometimes these things are what pushes you the hardest.”- Enoma

Tour de-force vocalist, tattoo artist, chef, alternative model (the list goes on) Lucy LeNoir was added to the group later in the year, with bassist Mark Schroeder joining soon after. The trio quickly began writing and demoing new material reminiscent of their old groups.....and just as quickly scrapped it.

“We wanted to just go as a blank slate and create in the moment. No script, no roadmap, no rules. Just pure inspiration in the moment.”

These false start didn’t hinder the bands momentum (indeed, the opposite), and the addition of Mike Ray (guitar / keys) solidified the group’s musical dynamic. Writing and recording their debut single with Smyth (now a 2X Grammy nominated producer) at his LA studio, the band found that their “sound” stemmed directly from their collective belief that music is akin to love and its ability to connect and heal people through shared experience. It is in those moments at the studio, HAUNTER was born.

“None of this is real, except our love for you.”

HAUNTER pulls sonically from alt-pop and mainstream luminaries like Chvrches, Ellie Goulding, Taylor Swift, Lights, PVRIS, Imagine Dragons, and CXLOE, while showcasing occasional appreciation for the guitar driven Emo/Pop Rock groups like Jimmy Eat World and The Maine. The group is dedicated to creating substantial, thoughtful, uncompromising pop music that aims to foster genuine connections with listeners.
