"Feels Like Yesterday" - Nicole Rayy | Review

If I am reviewing a country song you know it is going to be a good one.

Nicole Rayy taps into something anthemic and relatable with her newest single "Feels Like Yesterday". Am I allowed to say I relate to a 90's inspired anthem as a 2001 baby? I feel like we can let it slide since I understand the references and did not have social media until high school.

Rayy knows her audience. This is a country song with the pop culture hits intertwined.

Opening with a retro guitar riff, Rayy's soaring, pop-fuelled vocals reminisce on the pop culture of her childhood, with the nostalgia solidified by a sample of Third Eye Blind's "Semi-Charmed Life" in the chorus. The video draws inspiration from Britney Spears' "Baby One More Time,'' with the school scenes filmed in a local school (Sunnidale Public School) in her hometown of Oakville, ON.

I'm in love with how fun this track is. I will be blasting this one in the car.

On the video, Nicole shares,"This is the most fun I've ever had creating a music video! I wanted it to pay tribute to all the wonderful trends of my childhood, and Aj (Roadhouse Productions) really brought my vision to life. From lava lamps, to frosted tips to Britney Spears this video is a love letter to the dial-up generation. I hope you are ready to be transported back in time because it will definitely have you feeling like you're living in the 1990s again."

Rapidly growing her name in the country industry, Nicole Rayy has amassed over a million catalogue streams to date, with her smash 2020 single Broken Boys racking in over 500K streams alone. She's received praise from country tastemaker press such as The Boot, Complete Country, and Top Country while finding her music places across popular playlists like Spotify's New Music Nashville and Live Country, as well as Amazon Music's Breakthrough Country and Certified Country.
