“Feels Like Dying” - Ally Nicholas | Review

“Feels Like Dying” by Ally Nicholas is an indie rock song that tugs at your heartstrings. For anyone suffering from a broken heart, this one’s for you.

The song establishes a melancholy yet beautiful mood right away with guitar and production sounds. Ally’s effortless, soft tone is just so genuine and full of emotion. You can tell she wrote this song from her heart, where the inspiration for some of the best songs come from. Ally sings about a soul-crushing, heartbreak that leaves you still longing for the person who left you.

She eloquently captures that suffocating feeling of being left behind with the lyrics: “wish I was next to you, hold me while I turn blue.” Ally manages to make such a depressing and relatable story sound so beautiful with her harmonies and breathy vocals. She fittingly calls this song “an ode to the heartbroken.”

Ally Nicholas is a Los Angeles based alternative artist who grew up feeling isolated and different at her private Catholic school in Chicago. She lists My Chemical Romance, Slipknot, Korn, and Alice In Chains as some of her favorite bands. The 22-year-old attended NYU for one year before dropping out and pursuing music. “Feels Like Dying” is her debut single produced by Peter Fenn and Valentin Fritz.
