“Fading Away” - YAOUNDÉBOXINGCLUB | Review

“Fading Away” by YAOUNDÉBOXINGCLUB is an electro pop, tropical house song full of feeling.

The introduction has a muffled, dreamy quality established by synths. The melody is extremely catchy as the production creates an upbeat tropical rhythm. The artist’s beautiful tone and vocals are woven into the beat to create a nostalgic feeling filled with emotion. She sings about loss and “smiling when I’m bleeding...going through the motions” as the memories of that lost person or thing gradually dissipate over time. Just when you think the song can’t get any better, YAOUNDÉBOXINGCLUB incorporates a groovy guitar solo that fits right into the melody and adds complexity that is so pleasing to listen to.

YAOUNDÉBOXINGCLUB explains, “Lyrically the song is about how our memories slowly fade away overtime and how no matter what we do we will never be able to fully recover them. I learned to accept it and to let go but knowing it will always hurt, and I felt the need to discuss it in a song.”

She adds, “I wanted to make sure the production captured this deep feeling of nostalgia as well, using this particular chord progression, vocal samples and drums. From a production point of view the song is my attempt at blending electronic music with various African and Caribbean drums and rhythms.”

YAOUNDÉBOXINGCLUB is a 21 year-old London-based French singer, songwriter, producer, and mix engineer. She began releasing music in 2019 with her song “Ocean.” Her remix of this song now has over 4,000 streams on Spotify.
