"Don't Pray for Me" - Devon Baldwin | Review

“Don’t Pray for Me” by Devon Baldwin is a thumping power anthem, showcasing Baldwin’s rich vocals. The strength in her voice and the thoughtfulness of every word packs a hard punch at the subject of her song, a person who wronged her in the past. Baldwin establishes herself as a lyricist and singer with “Don’t Pray for Me”; though it sounds like a typical pop song, there’s an extra foundation of cleverness and musicality that differentiates this single from the others.

Baldwin, originally from the Bay Area, is the daughter of Windham Hill Records producer Dawn Atkinson and has been recording her own music since she was a teenager. In 2009, she auditioned for American Idol, where she made it to the top 25 before being eliminated. At Loyola University, she met rapper G-Eazy and collaborated with him on multiple songs. Unfortunately, one of her lungs collapsed and had to take a break from music because of the major surgery that followed. After recovering, she began performing at festivals such as SXSW and Outside Lands and toured alongside JMSN. She released her debut EP, “Lungs,” in 2015 and, since then, has released many singles.
