18 year old, Chanel Loran is taking the pop music scene by storm. She is a versatile performer who released her debut single "Hush" in August of 2014. She has been on a roll ever since. We are so excited to see this young gem grow and shine.
Unheard Gems: Welcome to Unheard Gems! We are so excited to hear from you, how are you?
Chanel Loran: Thank you Unheard Gems! I'm great and thank you for asking.
Unheard Gems: Just for our readers to get to know you a little bit better can you tell us a bit about how you got started in music?
Chanel Loran: Yes, of course. I have been singing for as long as I can remember. My first public performance was at age 3. At 13 years old I was a studio demo singer, which was an amazing opportunity for me to work with producers and writers. By age 14 I was writing my own melodies and lyrics.
Unheard Gems: Congrats on your new track “Take It”. Honestly such a strong and powerful song. What can you tell us about this track?
Chanel Loran: "Take It" is about not allowing someone to label you. Refusing to be defined by who or what someone thinks you should be. It's about breaking out on your own terms!
Unheard Gems: Also happy birthday! This song is was released on your birthday right? 18 years old! Welcome to the newly adult club. Why is this song and release timing so important?
Chanel Loran: Thank you for the birthday wishes! Yes, "Take It' was released on my birthday. The timing was important because at age 18 I'm legally an adult, and I'm determined not to let others define me as an artist.
Unheard Gems: Bit of a side note on your birthday, how did you ring in 18?
Chanel Loran: My birthday was spent with 7 to 8 of my closest friends. We celebrated with pizza, cupcakes, and music!
Unheard Gems: What about plans for the rest of this year? Touring, new music, videos
etc?
Chanel Loran: I have plans to release the lyric video for "Take It." My second single will release next month and follow up with my EP early Summer. I expect to release a couple of lyric videos and at least one music video. I would love to tour, performing is definitely one of my favorite things.
Unheard Gems: As you continue to develop your voice as an artist who is inspiring you and what are some things you are keeping in mind?
Chanel Loran: I have a love for 90's R&B, and current hip-hop. The thing that I keep in mind is being myself as a person and an artist.
Unheard Gems: On the flip side, what advice can you give, being a young and successful woman in the music industry, what can you advise to others trying to achieve the same dream you are?
Chanel Loran: Be the style of artist that you want to be. Never let anyone tell you the type of artist you should be.
Unheard Gems: I love hearing what the artists we talk to are listening to. Who are some artists you think deserve more attention in the music industry and why?
Chanel Loran: Ariana Grande , Khalid, and Daniel Caesar are three artist I love listening to at the moment. Bazzi deserves more attention because he has an incredible sound and attention to detail in his songs.
