Alternative-pop powerhouse Alex Ray returns with the electrifying new single "UR KINDA LUV," featuring production maestro SAYWHEN. Set to drop May 9, this genre-bending track showcases Ray's signature intensity , blending dreamlike synth-pop elements with an unexpectedly gritty breakdown that bridges her musical past with her artistic future.
"UR KINDA LUV" delivers a potent emotional punch wrapped in Ray's distinctive sonic architecture, culminating in what she describes as an "absolutely disgusting breakdown" that serves as the perfect bridge between her debut single "Thinkin We Should Talk" and her upcoming musical evolution. Though inspired by newfound romance, this is no gentle ballad – it's a fearless declaration delivered with all the grit and authenticity fans have come to expect.
"When SAYWHEN and I wrote UKL, we were actually scheduled to cut vocals to another song," Ray reveals. "But I had just met my partner and was too in love to get in that grimy, angry headspace." The result is a track that explores vulnerability without sacrificing intensity, featuring standout lines like "They say fools rush in, I guess I'm dumb" that capture the exhilarating free-fall of unexpected connection.
After navigating a turbulent 2024 and shelving the track for almost a year, Ray revisited the song with a renewed vision, enlisting John Sinclair of World's First Cinema to refine vocal performances and production elements. "Between him and SAYWHEN, UKL and the upcoming music is very representative of the sound I've been searching for," Ray explains, pointing toward her highly anticipated EP dropping Fall 2025.
