Alternative-pop powerhouse Alex Ray delivers her most unhinged and cathartic release yet with the explosive new single "BOY YOU AIN'T," dropping August 6 with an accompanying music video premiering August 8. This trap-infused rock anthem showcases Ray's fearless evolution as an artist, blending savage lyricism with genre-defying production that refuses to stay in any lane. Co-written with saywhen and Spencer Scardina of SAINT CLOUD, "BOY YOU AIN'T" is female rage at its most unapologetic – a scorching takedown wrapped in addictive beats and Ray's signature raw authenticity.

Born from the ashes of a toxic situationship, "BOY YOU AIN'T" captures that moment of brutal clarity when the rose-colored glasses finally shatter. Ray had fallen hard for what she thought was love, only to realize she'd been blind to a partner's massive ego and complete self-absorption. The breakup fight that ended it all became a wake-up call, revealing someone who thought she needed him despite bringing absolutely nothing to the table. What started as heartbreak quickly transformed into righteous anger, and Ray knew exactly where to channel that fury. "I had just gone through this breakup and was just so, so angry and felt so used," she reflects. The writing session with saywhen and Spencer became an unexpected therapy session, with Ray spilling intimate details about the relationship while her collaborators helped refine her most savage observations into devastating lyrical ammunition.

The track exemplifies Ray's refusal to be confined by genre expectations, featuring trap drums and percussion alongside rock elements that create something entirely fresh in her catalog. "BYA highlights really how diverse my sound is becoming," Ray explains. "I don't like staying in a genre lane, and my upcoming music is a mix of synth pop, rock, alt – and then we have these trap drums and percussion that I just love. I think BYA is so out of pocket soundwise and lyricwise, and it just really sets the stage for me being able to do whatever I want."

Ray envisions the perfect listening experience as pre-gaming fuel: "I love the idea of a bunch of girls getting dressed in all black and sharing makeup and drinking like the world is ending and SHRIEKING about all of their terrible exes. This song is supposed to be cathartic and unhinged and kind of taboo." It's this uncompromising vision that makes "BOY YOU AIN'T" both a personal exorcism and a universal anthem for anyone who's ever seen through someone's facade.
