"Take Time" by Sucreblooms | Review

“Take Time” is an audio art of reassurance for people going through anxiety, emotional turmoil, or needs someone to understand them. It’s the lead single from Sucreblooms’ new EP also titled “Take Time”.

The song’s primary genres are indie EDM and alternative pop, but another genre I would add is mind “stimulating EDM”. Some electronic synths and music elements are calming and stimulating to the brain; it’s not too much to disturb your train of thought, and it’s not too soft so you don’t detect anything. It’s perfect to listen to while working, studying or napping because it’s so soothing.

What makes the music more heartwarming (and almost tear jerking) is it includes samples from Sucrebloom’s daughter. “Most of the sounds in “Take Time” are made from clips of videos of my daughter who was three at the time, using granular synthesis and various forms of sampling.” Now that’s sampling done right; mainstream, take notes.

Truthfully, I didn’t know I needed to hear comforting words until I listened to “Take Time”. The lyrics tell someone going through anxiety to take the time they need to get together while reassuring them on the side. Sucrebloom wrote this song for his daughter to teach her how to deal with tough emotions. “It’s also about coming to terms with the fact that while I could do my best to guide her, there are some things that everybody needs to ultimately work through on their own, as painful as it may be,” he also said.

About the artist:

Based in Brooklyn, Sucreblooms - real name Erick Lee - is a singer, producer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist. He was the frontman of Modern Rivals, a Brooklyn-based indie rock/pop band. Pitchfork praised sucreblooms for his vocal performances presenting “present-day curiosity towards the endless access to the past.”

He debuted in 2021 with the release of his EP Outgrow. It combines blooming synth figures, deep bass, and pristine modern production as the backdrop for Lee’s delicate vocals to explore the meaning of self, and the anxieties that can hold when we look for solace in our sense of identity. While we live in today’s frenetic, technology-driven world, the EP carries a deep sense of humanity.

Sucrebloom will release his second EP “Take Time” in late 2024, featuring three new tracks.
