A dreamy synth gives way to néomi’s signature vocals, with a gorgeous tone and captivating harmonies that remind me quite a bit of a boygenius track. She sings about moving on, wishing that she could just go “somewhere new” and find someone new there too. It starts off slow but builds up into a huge chorus, which feels as though it symbolizes her feelings. She gradually becomes more and more exasperated and trapped before finally breaking free and deciding that she’s capable of going “somewhere new”.
Singer-songwriter Néomi Speelman prides herself on her honesty in her music, saying that she uses her songwriting as more of a diary. Inspired by artists such as Bon Iver, Phoebe Bridgers, and Novo Amor, she blends dreamy pop with folk effortlessly. Her debut album is on the way, and we can’t wait to see what’s in store!
