"Sightseer” - Carter James | Review

There is something about Carter James that has always drawn me to his music. “Sightseer” is the newest single to his ever-growing body of work.

Maybe it’s his distinctly indie-lo-fi vocals, maybe it’s the synthy groove that gives a laid back indietronic 80’s nostalgia. I can’t put my finger on it but this young singer-songwriter has my whole heart and both of my ears anytime he releases new music. His songwriting is so sharp and clever and I love the space he allowed this track to have with the instrumental which allows you to just let the instrumental and hook wash over you. Originally written on the eve of Jame’s 21st birthday, the artist writes “ it was originally a stream of consciousness depicting my mental health journey” and now it is this elevated almost meditative track.

Carter James is a twenty-one-year-old Singer/Songwriter based in Boston, Massachusetts. Studying at Berklee College of Music and specializing in sad electronic ballads, Carter writes and records all of his music in his bedroom. With over 2,000,000 streams on Spotify, he proves that you don’t need a studio to make music that resonates. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, Carter strives to connect people through music and make them feel a little less alone.
