Let Me Be Fucking Sad - ellie d. | Review

ellie d. is an LA Native who is known for her honest brand of vulnerable lyrics and catchy melodies. Her music gives off a vibey, chill, reflective and hopeful vibe. She gained traction with her music in 2019 when she released a chill pop collaboration with Rando of ‘Passionfruit’ by Drake.

Reading the title of her new single immediately made me want to write about it because it’s such a vibe. Breakups suck and so does life in general sometime and ellie d. portrays that well in her new single “Let Me Be Fucking Sad”.

ellie wrote this song about experiencing a really bad breakup from a toxic relationship. “‘Let me be fucking sad’ is the first stage after a breakup, you don’t want to reflect yet, you just want to be sad and in your feels.” Starting the song with the chorus of “Just let me be fucking sad for a minute / for a minute / I wanna sleep in / just let me be fucking sad for a minute / close my eyes write myself and my feelings” captures your attention. Everything about the lyrics of this song are just so honest and vulnerable.

This song makes me feel so heard and understood. Going through a breakup is the worst and having a song that expresses exactly how I feel after going through that is such an incredible feeling. Like I’m actually not okay and I wanna cry and be depressed for a sec so “Let Me Be Fucking Sad”. Writing a song about having a hard time is really admirable when everyone wants you to be fine and get over things in 24hours.
