“Dreamland” - Kaatii | Review

Kaatii is going to be the next big name in indie pop-rock music, you can quote me on that.

This 14-year-old has the tone of a young Taylor Swift, her lyrics are sharp and powerful, and the production is impactful and packs a punch. This track is impressive regardless of her age, but, wow, does this girl have the makings of a future powerhouse!

Kaatii immerses her listeners in her newest single, and body of work, “Dreamland”. “Dreamland” is her most intimate effort yet. “This song represents my growth as an artist...it’s a lot more raw and emotional. Out of all my music, this one feels the most like a personal diary entry.”

“Dreamland,” written about a crush who repeatedly showed up in Kaatii’s dreams, takes you through the depths of her subconscious. “It’s about liking someone enough to where it seems a little like an obsession,” Kaatii recounts, “The world inside your head can be super confusing and overwhelming, especially when someone you barely know shows up in your thoughts more often than necessary. This song was an attempt at picking it all apart...wondering whether she felt the same way too and was meeting me in her dreams as well.”

Kaatii’s emotionally charged alto and ethereal harmonies remind us of indie star Angel Olsen’s critically acclaimed debut studio album Burn Your Fire For No Witness. The track’s verbed electric guitars and raw intensity are reminiscent of her heroes Beabadoobee and Oscar Lang. With Kaatii’s first E.P. expected later this summer, she gives us plenty to look forward to and dream about.
