It’s becoming rarer and rarer, as music production evolves, to find a jack of all trades in the music industry. Rich Delinquent's “Betray Me” is sonically complex with a great mix (I would recommend listening with high quality speakers or headphones) and an interesting storyline lyrically. You would think that something could be lacking when one person has to carry every piece, but instead depth can be found in every aspect.
Each part of the song from the synths to the vocals are clean. If you close your eyes as you listen, it’s like Rich Delinquent is performing right in front of you. It’s so clear it’s particularly impressive. This specific clarity and the mix of synths not only is reminiscent of the Weekend but also Bazzi. As a huge fan of both, I was happy for this clarity with some more specific and a little less toxic lyrics like. The lyrics “I love the way that you betray me” channels sexy brat energy instead of toxic manipulation. It’s probably the closest to the inverse viewpoint of brat, the Charli XCX album that was top of the charts last summer, that I’ve heard.
If you are trying to have brat energy this coming spring, looking forward to clubbing and just generally want to have fun while being a little mischievous, I think “Betray me is a good start to the rest of Rich Delinquents catalog which, if his name suits him, should have more songs in the same vein.
